Photography as a hobby might be an excellent idea. It is something that relaxes you, but also gives you a sense of accomplishment. Leaving everything behind to start a career in photography is a different thing. You are already placing your source of livelihood on the line. It does not mean though that you should forget your dream because you are afraid of the risks. You can take the required steps to ensure that if you pursue a full-time photography career, it will end well.
It is one thing to enjoy taking photos, and another to be passionate about it. Passion needs to come first if you want a career in photography. You cannot obsess about the idea that it earns you money. You need to focus on creating quality results. If people feel impressed with what you are doing, it will be easy for them to partner with you the next time. Conversely, if you lack passion, your work might depict it.
Have a niche
You cannot be a jack-of-all-trades in photography. There is nothing wrong in trying to take photos of different subjects, but you need to specialise in one aspect. When people think of you, they immediately assume that you are excellent in a specific area. You might specialise in wedding photos and baby photos since they are in-demand. Again, you can only pursue those niches if you feel passionate about them.
Spread the word
Let everyone know about you. Publish your photos online. Create a page dedicated to your pictures. Ask your close friends to help you spread the images. As people start seeing your capability, they will include you on their list if they need photography services. Be ready to accept feedback since you cannot expect everyone to accept whatever you put out there positively. You will most likely find negative comments especially among other photographers, but you can take their words with a pinch of salt.
Enrol in a photography class
There is nothing wrong in trying photography classes. It is an acceptance that there are better photographers out there who could mentor you. Take notes during the course and enjoy it. You can find your expressive voice while you are listening to your teacher or while doing tasks related to what you learn during the class. You can check out London based photography courses if you live in the area.
Be financially stable
You are starting a photography business, and you will most likely resign from your day job. You cannot juggle a business this laborious and a full-time job with another company. You can make it happen if you have enough money to support both business and personal finances. Create a budget plan that considers at least a year of expenses.
After considering all these things, it is time for you to become a full-time photographer. Focus on the quality of your work and people will come to you.
